What is Makedo?
Makedo is a cardboard construction tool system that is open-ended and easy to use. Makedo allows you to build imaginative and useful creations using recycled cardboard.
What inspired the creation of Makedo?
Makedo strives to support children and adults all over the globe to become 21st century thinkers!
We believe when people are making and playing freely they are solving problems, exploring new ideas, stretching their imagination, developing new skills, testing their limits, tapping into their instincts, collaborating and innovating.
These are all good things and we want to foster more of it.
Who designed and created Makedo?
Makedo was invented and designed by Paul Justin (PJ), an industrial designer based in Melbourne, Australia, in response to requests from his kids to help them make ‘props’ for their imaginative play.
What is the suitable age range for Makedo?
Anyone over the age of four can Makedo. If you are able to imagine that a cardboard box can be something other than ‘a box', then you have just earned your License to Makedo!
Can you explain the tools?
Makedo tools are designed for little hands to be able to use them easily.
The Safe-saw™ allows kids to saw and punch cardboard without the need to give them sharp pointy tools.
Our specially designed Scru and Scrudriver make connecting layers of cardboard far more intuitive and effective than other alternatives.
Are the tools reusable?
Yes! We designed Makedo tools to be re-usable.
Simply unscrew the Scru from an existing creation and use it again and again!
How many Toolkits do I need?
The number of Toolkits you need depends on the number of people who will be working with Makedo at any given time and also the scale of what they are working on. As a rough guide, one Toolkit can accommodate one to two participants.
Do you sell cardboard?
No, we only sell the tools for cardboard construction - to safely cut and connect.
In the spirit of making do, you need to find the cardboard locally.
Here are a few ideas for where to find good cardboard:
- in your home recycling bin
- at the grocer
- at the hardware store
- near the loading bay at most supermarkets
- at cardboard recycling plants
- at bicycle and appliance stores
- at second-hand box suppliers
- from cardboard manufacturers
Do you sell the movable hinge?
We do not sell the brackets or the moving hinge parts. These can either be made from cardboard or we offer them as free files so you can 3D print them yourself.
If you don't have access to a 3D printer, you can search for a local 3D printing service in your area or there are online options such as Shapeways that can print these files for you.
Do you send free samples to schools?
We are not able to supply a free sample at this time. Our TOOLKIT Starter is offered at a very reasonable $12.50 USD and functions well as a tester kit.
Do you offer discounts for Educators?
Yes! The prices of our larger Makedo TOOLSETs include an in-built discount to accommodate for the restricted budgets of schools and other not-for-profit organisations.
Do you have a Donations or Sponsorship program?
We love supporting people with their making endeavours so every month we'll give away free Makedo Kits and will sometimes offer product discounts. Please note that we do not donate money.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept the following credit card payments: Visa and Mastercard.
Payment via PayPal is also an option.
Payments are processed through a secure gateway provided by Stripe.
Note: We do not accept bank transfers, cheques or magic beans.
Are my details secure?
Yes! We use the latest SSL encryption (128 bit) technology to ensure all your details are kept secure. We do not sell, rent or otherwise pass on any of your details to other parties. Ever.
My credit card has been declined. What can I do?
Check your details
Check that you have entered all your details correctly. Our Secure Payment Gateway will decline your transaction if even a single character is entered out of place.
Contact your bank
If you have entered details correctly and your card is still being declined then contact your bank to verify whether or not your card is authorised for international transactions.
Prepaid or Debit Cards
If you find your Debit Card has been declined at checkout, you can try the PayPal checkout option and enter your card details through PayPal.
Can I pay using PayPal?
Yes, for the USA/CANADA and INTERNATIONAL stores we are pals with PayPal. There is a link which can redirect you to pay via PayPal at checkout.
Will my credit card payment incur additional fees or charges?
Makedo is an Australian company accepting payments using an Australian-based bank. As such, some banks may charge an extra fee when transferring money to us. These charges are known as "international transaction fees" or "foreign currency fees."
These charges result in the customer paying a slightly increased amount above the Makedo invoice total. The extra charge, usually 1-3% of the invoice, may appear as a separate transaction on your credit card or added to the invoice total by your bank.
The amount that Makedo charges and receives is only the value of the Makedo products that have been ordered. The additional charges are added by the customer's bank, and cannot be detected by our billing system. We are therefore not able to include this amount on an invoice issued by Makedo.
US customers will be charged in USD for all orders, with no currency conversion. International customers are charged in AUD, and there may be a conversion fee that is applied by your bank. All additional fees are entirely dependent on the policy of the Credit Card issuing bank.
NOTE: To ensure you are not charged an International Transaction Fee, payment can be made using your credit card via the PayPal gateway at checkout. This will incur no additional charges and Guest payments do not require a PayPal account.
Can I make a Purchase Order?
We are sorry to say that there is no Purchase Order option in the Makedo Shop.
If the ordering process in our own checkout is not suitable for your purchase requirements, you can try one of our authorized Makedo resellers.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we can ship to almost anywhere in the world that receives regular postal services.

Where do you ship from?
We have four stock locations - Michigan USA, Bristol UK, Melbourne Australia and Hong Kong (close to where Makedo is made).
Orders for US and Canadian destinations ship locally from Michigan.
Orders for Australian destinations ship locally from Melbourne.
Orders for UK destinations ship locally from Bristol.
Orders for EU destinations ship internationally from Bristol.
All other orders ship internationally from Hong Kong.
When will my order arrive?
Delivery to Australia:
Express shipping orders are dispatched within 1 business day, and generally arrive within 1-2 days from dispatch. Standard shipping orders are dispatched within 2 business days and generally arrive between 2-4 days from dispatch.
Delivery to Canada:
All orders are dispatched within 1 business day and are shipped using the most suitable destination-based option (road or air freight) with various carriers for a 4-12 business day delivery timeframe.
Delivery to the United States:
All orders are dispatched within 1 business day and are shipped using 1-3 day USPS Priority Mail.
Delivery to UK:
Standard shipping orders are dispatched from Bristol, UK within 1 business day and generally arrive between 2-3 business days from dispatch.
Delivery to EU countries:
Standard shipping orders are dispatched from Bristol, UK within 1 business day and generally arrive between 5-7 business days from dispatch.
International orders are dispatched from HK within 2 business days and will arrive according to the carrier estimate calculated at checkout. Live carrier quotes are provided at checkout according to: Cheapest Price, Best Value and Fastest Arrival.
Please note that additional time may be required for customs processing of International shipments. Deliveries to remote locations may experience longer shipping times.
How will I know when my order has been dispatched?
We will send you a shipping confirmation email when your order has shipped from our warehouse.
How can I track my order?
Tracking is available for USPS and Express Shipping only. We will email you a tracking number once it is available (usually 1-2 days after shipment).
Tracking is NOT available for Standard shipping.
Do you ship to PO Boxes?
Yes, we can ship to valid PO Box and military addresses. However, we can only ship by USPS (USA) or Standard shipping (other countries) as these methods do not require a signature on receipt.
Will there be any import taxes/customs duties?
There are none for US customers as delivery is local.
For other countries, this really depends on the value of your order and the policy of your local Customs authority. You may be liable for any or all of the following taxes: customs duty, excise duty and import duty. All customs duties and taxes are the responsibility of the recipient. We have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be.

What can I do if I haven't received my order yet?
If you have not received your order by the estimated arrival date in your confirmation email, first check with your local postal and customs offices to see if they are holding your order. If after this your order cannot be located, please contact our customer support team at: email@example.com
